(2007-03-24) Another stellar night of music at McAuliffe's Pub. The evening started with Five Man Trio. I hadn't seen these guys in about three years. I'd forgotten how good they were then and man, they've just gotten better! Their songs and playing have really matured. Very nice, indeed.
Next was Towncrier from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A band that was new to my ears, Towncrier delivered some very tasty power-pop. Great songs, great playing and the stage presence of lead vocalist and keyboardist Jerry Lorenson was phenomenal. A true performer who knows how to interact with the audience. I will definitely be looking for these guys again in the future.
Capping off the evening was Nebraska's own Oxygen. Yet another band I was unfamiliar with before tonight and yet another I will be scoping out in the future. Finely crafted tunes, some hot guitar licks from Bryan Scherbring and the emotive voaclizations of Brent Cerny were highlights for me.
My thanks to all in Five Man Trio, Towncrier and Oxygen for their gracious hospitality and access before, during and after the show. Also (as always) to JJ and the best bar staff in the land!
